Padma Parvati Lakshmi is a Indian from Chennai who was born September 1st 1970. Lakshmi's parents divorced when she was just 2 years old. Her mother fled India to escape the stigma of divorce in India and moved to the United States. Lakshmi resided in Chennai with her maternal grandparents for two years, before moving to the United States. The couple divorced, and she has a younger brother and sister. Lakshmi is a name shared by the Hindu goddess wealth and prosperity. She grew up in New York, then moved to Los Angeles with her stepfather and mother.
