Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman was born May 25, 1994. She is a retired American artist gymnast. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and 2016 "Final Five" U.S. women's Olympic gymnastics teams. Both took home their respective teams competitions.At the 2012 Olympics in London she was awarded gold medals in the floor and team competitions along with the bronze medal on the balance beam, making her the most well-known American gymnast at the Games. She also won a team gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans to have back-to-back gold medals in this event. Raisman also took silver medals in the individual all-around and floor exercises. Raisman has silver medals from the all-around individual, as well as the floor exercise. She was also two-time champion in the national championships on floor exercise (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 national champion on the balance beam, as well as a five-time medalist in the all-around section at the national championships (silver in 2016, and bronze in 2011 and the 2015 season). In 2013, she was inducted into International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber and was a former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994, in Needham. She has three younger siblings: Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish she has said she takes a lot pride in being able not only to represent the United States of America, but also the Jewish community across the globe. "Raisman started gymnastics when she was eighteen months old. She credits her passion for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's squad that took home the gold medal at 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete was trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8 before she moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was trained by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year via online classes and training for the Olympics.
