Summer Bishil Bio

Summer Bishil was born in Pasadena, California. She and her family relocated to the United States when she was just three. Summer was a student at American as well as British schools while her family was in Europe. Her return to Pasadena, California just short of her fourteenth birthday. Enticed by the thought of becoming an actress from when she was just five years old, Summer took her first acting class at the age of 14. Nine months later, Summer signed with an agent and a manager and began to pursue her goal full-time. When she isn't working,, she attends college and is working towards completing her degree. One of the young stars featured in Vanity Fair's cover story, "Hollywood's New Wave: The Most Hot Kids in Hollywood" in August 2008.Was named one of the "Ten Actors to Watch" by Variety (2007).Nominee for Best Actress - Spirit Award. Bishil began her acting classes at the age of 14. In just a year, she was contracted to an agent and a manager. Bishil's first performance was on the short-lived Nickelodeon show Just for Kicks, followed by appearances in other children's shows.Bishil's first big break came when she played the lead character in Alan Ball's film, Towelhead in 2007 as an adaptation of the novel of the same name. Slate critic Dana Stevens said, "Her performance is the most authentic in a film that, for all its good intentions, feels thoroughly phony and a little embarrassing, much like an extended PSA concerning inappropriate touching." Bob Strauss writes for many Los Angeles newspapers and states that Bishil "...is the top natural actresses on film of all time. Gary Goldstein in a September 12 Los Angeles Times review of the film Towelhead and stated that "...newcomer Summer Bishil turns in a strong, nimble, riveting performance in the role of Jasira. "In 2009, she shot Wayne Kramer's new project, Crossing Over, starring Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd, a portrayal that garnered some positive attention from Associated Press's Jay Reiner. She was chosen to play Azula in M. Night Shyamalan’s 2010 film The Last Airbender. This was to be the primary theme of the planned but never released sequel.
